Mit einem Intraoralscanner wurden die Schleimhautoberflächen zahnloser Ober- und Unterkiefer sowie die Prothesenrandbereiche abgeformt. Zusätzlich wurden die vorhandenen Prothesen mit ihren Zahnpositionen und Prothesenbasen sowie ein mittels Pfeilwinkelaufzeichnung gewonnenes Zentrikregistrat mit dem Intraoralscanner digitalisiert. Diese Scans lieferten alle erforderlichen Informationen für die Neuversorgung mit CAD/CAM-gefertigten Totalprothesen.

Intraoral scanning was used to capture the soft tissue surfaces of both maxillary and mandibular edentulous ridges and the denture borders. Additionally, an intraoral scanner was used to digitize existing dentures with their tooth positions and base forms and a centric relation record obtained with a Gothic arch-tracing device. These scans provided all the required records for fabrication of computer-aided design/computer-assisted manufacturing of complete dentures.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to compare the shear bond strength of crowns cemented on natural teeth after surface treatment of the enamel with an erbium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet (Er:YAG) laser.
Materials and Methods: Crown preparation was done for 40 full-metal crowns, and wax patterns with loops were cast in a cobalt-chromium alloy. The Er:YAG laser was used for surface treatment of some teeth, and teeth without surface treatment acted as the control. Glass-ionomer and self-adhesive resin luting cements were used for cementation. Shear bond strength was tested using a universal testing machine, and statistical analysis was done using paired t test. Scanning electron microscopy analysis was also carried out to study alterations of the enamel and dentin surfaces.
Results: Significant increase in shear strength was noted after laser etching the teeth with Er:YAG laser for both types of cement (P < .0001).
Conclusion: The results showed that surface treatment using an Er:YAG laser resulted in significant increase in retention of crowns.

One of the difficult decisions confronting clinicians in daily practice is whether to treat or extract a tooth, particularly those with moderate or advanced disease processes or where trauma has inflicted substantial damage. Studies have shown that the clinician's decision is based on the length of clinical experience and the complexity of the treatment. The high survival rate of endosseous implants has also had a significant impact on the way clinicians think about the best treatment for teeth requiring endodontic therapy. Several factors should be considered when making a decision to either treat or extract a tooth. This report provides evidence-based information about the various factors and related treatment outcomes as well as clinical perceptions from a prosthodontic perspective.
