Welkom in Brussel! Bienvenue à Bruxelles! Wilkommen in Brüssel!

As the largest multi-disciplinary oral health research association in Europe, the Continental European Division (CED-IADR) of the International Association for Dental Research, together with the Scandinavian Division (NOF), is looking forward to welcoming you at the 2021 HYBRID CED-IADR/NOF Oral Health Research congress in Brussels, Belgium. This two-and-half-day in-person and virtual event will present you with a broad scientific programme; state-of-the-art symposia, excellent keynote lectures, oral & poster presentations from a wide spectrum of dental disciplines, and workshops on research reporting.

Save the congress dates in your calendars: September 16-18, 2021.

As you all know, 2020 has been a challenging year. Besides the continuous pressure of COVID-19 restrictions we all are experiencing, it has been a while since oral health researchers have presented their latest research in the way they did before 2020. Due to the cancellation of the IADR centennial meeting in Washington, DC, USA (March 18-21, 2020), and the postponement of the PER-IADR congress in Marseille, France (September 10-12, 2020), we learnt not to take real-life networking and research exchange for granted.

Nevertheless, 2021 brings with it a light at the end of the tunnel! However, it is still difficult to predict how the COVID-19 situation will evolve and when exactly vaccines will be available in all of Europe. Therefore, the Continental European Division (CED-IADR), together with the Scandinavian Division (NOF), opted for a HYBRID congress set-up.

Our aim is to expand our reach through an online platform integrated in our in-person event. This way we hope to be inclusive towards those who are unable to attend the congress physically. We are determined to ensure that both in-person and virtual attendees will experience some unique networking opportunities. Be aware that, as a health organisation, we are closely monitoring the evolving restrictions to guarantee that all regulations in force at the time of the congress will be followed in preparation for the in-person event and during the event.

SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH EXCHANGE is more important than ever and will be the focus of our two-and-half-day programme. Whether you plan on attending the congress virtually or physically, we strongly encourage you to submit your abstract and support us in advancing oral health research.

Our in-person attendees are invited to the free Opening Ceremony (September 16, 2021), which will be held inside the old City Hall, located at the famous city square ‘Grote Markt’ or ‘Grand Place’. The multilingual city of Brussels is considered to be the de facto capital of the European Union (EU), giving you plenty of travel options (air travel, railway, car) and hotels (different price categories) to choose from. As a relatively small city, the main tourist attractions, such as the Royal Palace, the Royal Gallery of St. Hubert, the Royal Museum of Fine Arts of Belgium, the Margritte Museum, and Manneken Pis, are all within walking distance from the convention venue SQUARE.

Let’s not forget, for the cycling fans, there’s the UCI World Road Championship being held in the same week as our congress.

Hopefully, 2021 will be a better year, in which we will soon meet again in person. Let’s combine our efforts more than ever to promote and advance oral health, be it virtually or physically!

Stay healthy and don’t give up!

Sincerely,

Bart Van Meerbeek
