Ceramic inlays and partial crowns have become scientifically recognized posterior restorations. Their clinical effectiveness depends on the development of durable dental ceramics and luting materials as well as an effective bonding system. Therefore, these factors were in the focus of interest in the past. In contrast, only little attention was given to preparation techniques. However, current studies show that special preparation rules should be followed to ensure best fitting CAD/CAM ceramic restorations and long-lasting clinical success.This paper describes preparation requirements by means of detailed three-dimensional schematic drawings and then deduces the clinical procedure for the preparation of ceramic inlays and partial crowns with standardized preparation instruments.

Purpose: To evaluate the accuracy of detecting cephalometric landmarks automatically by computer. Materials and Methods: Digital image processing algorithms (edge-based and morphological) in addition to mathematical algorithms (knowledge-based) were used to develop a program for the identification of 15 lateral cephalometric landmarks on digital cephalograms. Results: The automatic landmark identification system was clinically acceptable (p > 0.05 comparing with 2-mm error range) for five landmarks. Conclusion: The automatic landmark identification is accurate for only some landmarks. Additional studies may be necessary to improve this method.

The temporary restoration of single-tooth gaps in the esthetically demanding anterior region represents a major challenge to the dentist and his/her team. The possibility of restoring single-tooth gaps after implantation is discussed in this paper, and we describe how a computermilled drilling template made of composite can be converted with simple means into an esthetically attractive adhesive bridge.

Der Beitrag beschreibt die Herstellung von CAD/CAMpräfabrizierten Lithiumdisilikat-Abutments unter Verwendung von Galvanosekundärteleskopen auf einteiligen Bauer-Schraubenimplantaten zur Retention von herausnehmbarem Zahnersatz, welcher spannungsfrei im Mund verklebt wird.
