A learning and diagnostic program for computer-assisted functional analysis of the craniomandibular system (CMS) is presented. The development and functionality of the program modules of "Anatomy and structural physiology of the CMS", "Learning program for manual functional analysis of the CMS" as well as "Computer-assisted functional diagnostics of the CMS" are described. The second part of the article is concerned with experience in practical use of the software at the treatment center.

The ROSY robot system has been developed to simulate movements of the jaw under stepper motor control. The areas of indication comprise functional diagnostics and production of designed occlusal splints. Moreover, this device can also be extended for use in other areas. The computer-assisted design of OR templates has become possible. The simulator also permits the production of implant-borne restorations with optimum implant loading.

Inlays sind noch immer mit großem Abstand die Lieblingsrestauration des Cerec anwendenden Zahnarztes. Im Laufe der Weiterentwicklung des Cerec-Gerätes stand das Bestreben im Vordergrund, die konstruktive Komponente bei der Herstellung der Restauration von Generation zu Generation zu vereinfachen. Allen bisherigen Konstruktions-Modellen gemeinsam ist ein abstraktes Linien- Gerüst aus zunächst monochromgrünen, später dann farbigen Konstruktionslinien, die dem Zahnarzt anhand von X,Y-Koordinaten Hilfestellung geben sollen, sich zum einen die auszuschleifende Restauration vorstellen zu können, aber auch zum anderen etwaige Konstruktionsfehler rechtzeitig zu erkennen, um nicht erst am Ende des Schleifprozesses mit einem unbefriedigenden Ergebnis konfrontiert zu werden.

Cerec (Sirona) technology has been continuously evolving since the introduction of Cerec 1 in 1985. Improvements and hardware and software have contributed to increased ease of use and improved fit of the milled restorations. The commitment of Sirona to technological improvement of the Cerec product line has been evident, most recently with the introduction of Cerec 3 in 2000.

The practical use of the Function program mode in Cerec 3D is demonstrated in the present patient case. The author performed almost all restorations with the previous Cerec 3 software using the Correlation mode. This has not changed with the new 3D program. Correlation is now used almost always jointly with Function. Whereas the Function mode in Cerec 3 was still an independent option, Function is now selected automatically by the program when optical impressions of the antagonist are taken.

The new Cerec 3D design software for inlays and partial and full crowns simplifies work when producing several restorations in one session. Quite significant progress has been achieved, in that the entire row of teeth of a quadrant can be acquired completely and displayed by successively overlapping optical impressions. The digital working model of a quadrant in which all preparations are acquired is the result. The restorations can be designed individually and inserted virtually. Thanks to virtual insertion, the proximal contacts to neighboring restorations can be designed perfectly and all restorations finally designed, milled, and inserted in one sitting. This method provides a significant rationalization effect.

The veneer enthusiast among Cerec users finds her- or himself confronted with good news and bad news in the Cerec 3D program. The long required provision of for the veneer program as well is now finally reality - this is the good news. On the other hand in the present software version is the sole available design method - this is the bad news. The clinical use of the Cerec 3D veneer program is described and explained in the following article. Whether and to what degree limitation to restricts the user in his or her design possibilities are also discussed.

Vollkeramische Primärteleskope dienen einerseits zur Befriedigung der wachsenden ästhetischen Bedürfnisse auch älterer Patienten und gewährleisten andererseits ein gute Haftkraftstabilität. Mit Hilfe des Cerec inLab Systems können Primärteleskope aus Vita In-Ceram Infiltrationskeramik nach vorheriger konventioneller Bestimmung der Gesamteinschubrichtung computergestützt gestaltet und ausgeschliffen werden. Die so gewonnenen Rohkronen bedürfen nur noch einer geringfügigen Nachbearbeitung. Die Sekundärteile werden mit Hilfe des Galvanoforming angefertigt. Diese werden über einen Klebeverbund mit der Tertiärstruktur verbunden. Die Besonderheit der adhäsiven Befestigung der Primärteleskope erfordert eine kompromisslos gute Zusammenarbeit zwischen Zahnarzt und Labor.
