Professor Dr. med. Dr. med. dent. Bilal Al-Nawas is Chairman of the Department of Oral, Maxillofacial and Plastic Surgery at the J. Gutenberg University of Mainz, Germany. He has been Adjunctive Associate Professor at Kyung Hee University School of Dentistry, Seoul, Korea since 2009. Professor Al-Nawas’ major clinical and scientific focus in dental implantology is on clinical studies and basic research. His clinical field of work is compromised patients with risk factors or local bone deficiency, as well as tumor and cleft reconstructions. He has published over 200 publications in peer-reviewed journals. He sits on the ITI Board of Directors and the ITI Research Committee, is an ITI Fellow and ITI Education Delegate of the ITI Section Germany. He was twice awarded “Best Teacher at the Medical Faculty”. He is Past President of the International Federation of Dental Anesthesiology Societies (IFDAS) and Secretary General of the German Society of Implantology (DGI).

From 1994 to 1999, Prof. Dr. Florian Beuer studied at the Dental School of the Ludwig Maximilian University Munich, Germany, where he gained his license to practice (DDS) in 2000. From 2000 to 2001, he worked as an employed dentist in a private practice. In 2002, he became assistant professor in the Department of Prosthodontics of the Ludwig Maximilian University and made his Dissertation (Dr. med. dent.) in the same year. He became Specialist in Implantology (German Society for Implantology) in 2005. From 2007 to 2008, he worked as a Visiting Professor at the Pacific Dental Institute in Portland, Oregon (Director: John A. Sorensen DMD, PhD). His habilitation (Priv. Doz., PhD) was in 2009 at the LMU. From 2009 to 2015, he was the Vice President of the "Deutsche Gesellschaft für Ästhetische Zahnheilkunde (DGAEZ)". In 2010, he became an Expert in Prosthodontics after a further education at DGPro. Since 2011, Prof. Buer is a board member of the Team AG Ceramics. In the same year, he became the editor of the "Teamwork Journal of Continuing Dental Education". Since 2014, he was full Professor at Ludwig Maximilians University until 2015, when he became the Chairman of the Department of Prosthodontics at the Charité University of Medicine Berlin. He is also a Board Member of the German Society for Implantology (DGI).He gained his Master of Medical Education MME (University of Heidelberg) in 2015.

Dr Calciolari graduated in Dentistry at the University of Parma in 2010 and completed a Master in Periodontology at the University of Siena in 2012. In 2012 she won a 3-year scholarship from the Italian Society of Periodontology, which sponsored her PhD on bone regeneration at the UCL Eastman Dental Institute of London. Currently, she is working as a senior lecturer at the Centre for Oral Clinical Research at Queen Mary University of London, and at the University of Parma, where she combines research and teaching activities both with undergraduate and post-graduate students. She authored numerous peer-reviewed original publications and book chapters and presented at several national and international conferences in the field of Periodontology and Implant Dentistry, including EAO, IADR, EuroPerio, AO, and Italian Society of Periodontology. She attended the 2019 and 2020 consensus conferences of the European Federation of Periodontology and contributed to the development of the treatment guidelines for periodontitis stages I, II and III. Dr Calciolari was awarded with the Goldman award for clinical research in 2014 and in the same year she received the John Zamet prize by the Alpha Omega London Chapter and Charitable Trust. In 2017 she was awarded the prestigious L’Oréal-UNESCO for women in science award, being the first Italian dentist to receive it. In 2018 she received the IADR Women in Science Distinguished Research Award.

Associate Professor and Chair of Oral Surgery, School of Dentistry, University of Ferrara. Member of the Directive Council of the Research Center for the Study of Periodontal and Peri-implant Diseases at the same University (Director: Prof. L. Trombelli). Member of the Expert Council of the Osteology Foundation. Graduated in Dentistry and Dental Prosthesis (2003). PhD in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (2007). Visiting research fellow at the Center for Craniofacial Regeneration, University of Michigan (2007). Master of Science in Clinical and Epidemiological Research (2009). Dr. Farina's research interests are limited to Periodontology and Oral Implantology, and include the pathogenetic, diagnostic, preventive and therapeutic aspects of periodontal and peri-implant diseases. To date, Dr. Farina has published several book chapters and scientific articles in the major international peer-reviewed journals of the dental field. Dr. Farina is also Associate Editor of Minerva Stomatologica, member of the editorial board of the Journal of Dental Research and the Journal of Clinical Periodontology, and member of the peer review panel of the Journal of Periodontology, of Medicina Oral, Patologia Oral y Cirugía Bucal and of the Journal Periodontics and Implant Dentistry.

Dr Gary Finelle received his Dental Degree from the University of Paris 7, France in 2009. He completed his doctoral thesis working on soft tissue healing around implants. Between 2011 and 2013, he joined the Advanced Graduate Program of Oral Implantology at Harvard School of Dental Medicine (Boston, Massachussets) as a full time resident. His major field of interests is the application of digital technology into the surgical and prosthetic implant treatment workflow. He is involved in implant related research and has published in scientific peer-reviewed journals. Now based in Paris, Dr Gary Finelle, lectures nationally and internationally. He is currently an ITI Fellow (ITI International Team for Implantology), an active member of the American Dental Club of Paris, and of EAO (European Academy of Osseointegration). His private practice in Paris is limited to surgical and restorative implant rehabilitations, and esthetics.

Graduated cum laude in 1986 in Medicine and Surgery at the Univ. of Trieste, specialized with honors in Dentistry in 1989 at the Univ. of Pisa. Dr. Fonzar has been directing the “E.Fonzar” Friulian Dental Clinic in Campoformido (UD) since 1996. Periodontology, implantology and prosthetics are the specializations to which Dr. Fonzar has dedicated his activity, becoming one of the leading European experts. Active member and Past President of SIDP, member AIOP and Int. College of Dentistry, Dr. Fonzar is involved in periodontal clinical research projects and theaches at the Univ. of Trieste and Modena. Speaker in Italy and abroad at conferences on the subject of periodontology, implantology and prosthodontics. 

Dr. Gonzalez-Martin received the DDS degree from University of Seville in 1999 and was appointed as an assistant professor at the same university from 1999 to 2005, while also working in a private practice. In 2005, he moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (USA) to obtain an MS degree in Graduate Periodontics and Periodontal-Prosthesis in 2009 from University of Pennsylvania (UPenn). He received the Arnold Weisgold’s Director’s Award. He joined the UPenn faculty as an Adjunct Assistant Professor in 2009 and he currently keeps the position. He became a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontics in 2009. In 2010, he received a scholarship to join to the Fixed Prosthodontic and Occlusion Department at the University of Geneva School of Dental Medicine. In 2015, he obtained an International PhD at the University of Seville. Currently, he serves as Editor-in-Chief for The International Journal of Periodontics & Restorative Dentistry. At present, he teaches in the graduate program of Periodontology at University Complutense of Madrid, Part-time in Restorative Dentistry and Biomaterials Sciences Harvard School of Dental Medicine while continuing work at a private practice, Atelier Dental Madrid, exclusive to periodontics, prosthesis, and implants.

Dr. Gracis was trained in the United States where he obtained first a D.M.D. degree at the University of Pennsylvania, and, then, the certificate in Prosthodontics with an M.S.D. degree at the University of Washington. In 1990, he returned to Milan and has been working ever since in private practice limiting his activity to prosthodontics and restorative dentistry. He belongs as active member to the Italian Academy of Prosthetic Dentistry for which he was president in the years 2007–2008 and to the European Academy of Esthetic Dentistry for which he was president for the 2016–2018 term. He is on the editorial board of the International Journal of Esthetic Dentistry and of the International Journal of Prosthodontics.

Professor Lisa Heitz-Mayfield, an Adelaide graduate, obtained a Master's in periodontology (1996) and PhD (1998) from Lund University, Sweden. Her doctorate focused on periodontal and peri-implant regeneration. She received a scholarship to the Brånemark Osseointegration Centre, Sweden, and an ITI Scholarship to the University of Bern, Switzerland where she was Head of the Oral Microbiology Research Laboratory from 1999 to 2003. She was awarded the André Schroeder Research Prize in Implant Dentistry in 2002. Her positions include Adjunct Professor at the International Research Collaborative, University of Western Australia, Associate Professor at the University of Sydney, and Honorary Professor at the University of Hong Kong. She is the Chair of the ITI Research committee and Editor-in-Chief of the journal Clinical Oral Implants Research. She maintains a specialist periodontal practice in Perth.

Jim Janakievski received his D.D.S. from the University of Toronto, which was followed by a general practice residency.  After several years in general practice, he completed his post-graduate training at the University of Washington, where he received a certificate in Periodontology with a M.S.D. degree and a fellowship in Prosthodontics. He began his academic position at the University of Washington as assistant director of Graduate Periodontics and is currently an affiliate assistant professor. Dr. Janakievski is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology, and a Fellow of the American Academy of Esthetic Dentistry. He is a reviewer for several dental journals and has published in the area of interdisciplinary dentistry, dental implants, and tooth autotransplantation.  Dr. Janakievski teaches at Spear Education in Scottsdale Arizona.  In addition, he participates in practice-based clinical research through the McGuire Institute.  He maintains a private practice in Tacoma, Washington.

He is triple board-certified in Prosthodontics, Periodontology and Implantology. Tim holds an MSc degree in Prosthodontics & Biomaterials, a PhD in Digital Implant Workflows and an executive MBA. He was a former ITI-Scholar at the University of Bern (2011), later he received the venia legendi “Privatdozent” (2016) and was appointed Associate Professor (2018). Tim was also the founding Director of the Division of Digital Reconstructive Technology & Implantology in Bern. In 2018, he was appointed Vice Chair and Program Director of Postgraduate Education at the Department of Reconstructive Dentistry, University of Basel. Tim is Principal Investigator and actively involved in clinical and translational research on implant workflows and prosthetic treatment concepts in the field of digital technologies and e-health data management using AI & ML.

A gifted academician and clinician, Dr. Kinzer's interdisciplinary approach to dentistry is founded in empirical research and clinical experience. His unique ability to impart complex clinical processes in a logical, systematic and understandable way differentiates him from other dental educators of our time.

Committed to advancing the art and science of restorative dentistry, Dr. Kinzer continues to serve as an affiliate assistant professor in the graduate prosthodontic program at the University of Washington School of Dentistry. He also taught with Dr. Frank Spear at the Seattle Institute for Advanced Dental Education from 1998-2009 prior to joining Spear Resident Faculty.

In addition, Dr. Kinzer has written numerous articles and chapters for many dental publications and serves on the editorial review board for the Journal of Esthetics and Restorative Dentistry. He maintains a private practice in Seattle limited to comprehensive restorative and esthetic dentistry.

Dr. Alberto Monje obtained the certificate and Masters in Periodontology from the University of Michigan, Department of Periodontics and Oral Medicine. Since them, he is certified by the American Board of Periodontics. He was the recipient of the ITI Scholarship for 2016-2017 at the University of Bern (Switzerland). Dr. Alberto Monje is PhD in the field of alveolar bone architecture granted by the University of Granada (Spain). He holds a private practice exclusive in Periodontics and Implant Dentistry (CICOM Periodoncia). He is Adjunct Professor at the Department of Periodontics of the Universitat Internacional de Catalunya (Barcelona, Spain), and Assistant Clinical Professor at the Department of Periodontics and Oral Medicine at the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor, USA). Dr. Monje is Visiting Professor at the Department of Periodontology of the University of Bern (Switzerland).

David Nisand, DDS, Specialist in Periodontics He graduated in dentistry at the University of Paris 5, France. He was awarded a 3 years residency in the department of Periodontology and Implantology at the University of Paris 7 along with a 3 year post graduate program in Periodontology and oral Implantology at the University of Paris 7. He currently is lecturer for the Certificate in Periodontology at the University of Paris 7. From 2005 to 2007 he has been instructor at the Department of Periodontology, University of Paris 7, France. Currently President of the SFPIO (French Society of Periodontology and Oral Implantology) and member of the EAO communication committee. Member of the EAO Junior Committee from 2007 to 2011. He is co-editor of the European Academy for Osseointegration journal, Inspyred, and reviewer for the main scientific journals. Ausra Ramanauskaite completed the dental education (DDS) (2006–2011) and specialization in periodontology (MSc) (2011–2014) at the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, Lithuania. In 2016, she was awarded a one-year Osteology Foundation research scholarship at the Oral Surgery Department, University of Düsseldorf, Germany. She received the PhD degree in 2018 and Dr. med.dent in 2019. Currently, Ausra Ramanauskaite is working at the Oral Surgery and Implantology Department at Goethe University in Frankfurt, Germany. Ausra has authored international peer-reviewed publications and is active in the research field of peri-implant pathology, bone and soft tissue regeneration.

Prof. Dr. Dr. Eik Schiegnitz is Head of the Division of Implantology at the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Mainz, Germany. He obtained his medical degree (2009) from the University of Giessen and his dental degree (2013) from the University of Mainz. In 2008 he received his degree as Bachelor of Health Sciences (Riedlingen, Germany). In 2020 he obtained the Master of Science Implantology und Parodontology at the University of Witten/Herdecke. Since 2019 he is Fellow of the International Team for Implantology (ITI Fellow). Since 2020 he is Spokesman of the Leadership-Teams of the National Osteology Group Germany. Since 2021 he is Board Member of the DGI (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Implantologie) and since 2022 he is Chief-Editor of the International Journal of Implant Dentistry (IJID). Since 2023 he is part of the Leadership-Team (Education Delegate) of the International Team for Implantology Germany.

Frank Schwarz is Professor and Chairman of the Department of Oral Surgery and Implantology at the Centre for Dentistry and Oral Medicine (Carolinum), Johann Wolfgang Goethe-University Frankfurt, Germany. He serves as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Clinical Periodontology and Editorial Board Member for Periodontology 2000, Clinical Oral Implants Research and Clinical Implant Dentistry and Related Research. He is a Member of the Board of Directors of the European Association for Osseointegration – EAO, Executive Board Member of the Osteology Foundation, and Past President of the German Association of Oral Implantology (DGI). He was awarded the André Schröder Research Prize in 2007, the Miller Research Prize in 2012 and the Jan Lindhe Award in 2017.

Prof. Falk Schwendicke is Head of the Department of Oral Diagnostics, Digital Health and Health Services Research at Europe’s largest university hospital, the Charité in Berlin, Germany.

Prof. Schwendicke currently serves as Associate Editor of the Journal of Dental Research, as President of the German Association for AI in Dentistry, as Topic Driver Dental at the ITU/WHO group AI in Health and as Vice President of the German Society for Oral Epidemiology and Health Services Research. Dr. Schwendicke holds a PhD from Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin and a Master of Dental Public Health (MDPH) from the University of Manchester. He received numerous awards, among them the IADR Leader Award, IADR Basil Bibby and IADR Lion Award as well as the David Sackett Award for Evidence-Based Medicine.

Michael Stimmelmayr became a research assistant at Ludwig Maximilian University, Munich upon graduation in dentistry from the University of Regensburg. He obtained his doctoral degree in 1992 and his specialization as oral surgeon in 1997, serving as assistant medical director at the Chair for Prosthodontics. In 2000 he opened his own practice in Cham, with a professional focus on oral implantology and specialization in periodontology.

Stefan Vandeweghe completed his studies in dentistry at Ghent University in 2006 and subsequently specialized in oral implantology. In 2010, he obtained his PhD with his thesis “Factors affecting bone remodeling around surface-modified Southern Implants”. From 2010 to 2011, Dr. Vandeweghe was a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Malmö, Sweden, before he returned to Belgium, where he started his private practice. In addition, he continued his research at Ghent University, where he became Professor and Head of the department of Reconstructive Dentistry in 2017.

An esteemed practitioner in Langen, Germany, Dr. Vietor is a renowned oral surgeon and implantologist. His accomplishments span postgraduate studies in Oral Surgery, an ITI-Fellow title, and impactful contributions as a speaker and author. Expertise includes CAD/CAM implant prosthetics, personalized implant solutions, 3D navigation, and dental digital technologies.

Dental implants provide a common and very expensive treatment option to replace missing teeth to restore both functionality and aesthetics. It is estimated that over 500,000 implants are currently placed per year in the U.S. only and many more around the world. However, about 20-50% of people who had implants for five to ten years experience peri-implantitis, a chronic inflammatory disease that destroys soft and hard tissues around the implant causing implant and restoration failure. This condition has been described by leading dental surgeons as a "time bomb". This disease generally occurs without the patient being aware of it since it generally progresses in a painless fashion. Peri-implantitis and its causes are still poorly understood and presently, there is no gold standard approach for its treatment. The current hypothesis claims that the bacteria around the crowns and implants (dental plaque) is the main cause of peri-implantitis; however the destruction is caused by an excessive body’s immune response to the dental plaque. Despite substantial evidence that tissue destruction is due to excessive inflammation, the current approach to prevention and treatment of peri-implantitis is to remove plaque, rather than treat the inflammation. Plaque removal is flawed since peri-implantitis cannot be cured with plaque control. This approach results in loss of tissue and compromised esthetics. In light of these problems and due to the continuously increasing number of implants placed in everyday dental practice, we reasonably expect an increasing prevalence of peri-implantitis and the necessity for an effective treatment. Dr. Asaf Wilensky from the School of Dentistry at Hadassah University Hospital is undertaking a very important research with the premise that resolution of inflammation is an active process rather than a passive decay of pro-inflammatory signals. He is encouraged by the potential of pro-resolving molecules such as Resolvin D2 to promote the resolution of inflammation, thus preventing periodontal (gum disease) pathology around implants and teeth. Dr. Wilensky used an animal model for this research and found the encouraging result that simple topical applications of Resolvin D2 actually terminated inflammation and bone loss and thus prevented periodontal disease. This finding is really unprecedented in periodontal therapy. Dr. Wilensky’s proposed work is to gain an understanding on how the bacteria-induced peri-implantitis develops and to determine the mechanism by which Resolvin D2 prevents and treats this phenomenon for the overall health of patients. Dr. Wilensky has successfully developed a novel mouse model of peri-implantitis with the aim of finding innovative treatment. The use of a small animal model for periodontal disease and peri-implantitis has many advantages: 1) a small animal model is less expensive and thus allowing to study complex immune mechanisms which cannot be studied in large animals 2) this model generates important and relevant information on the potential mechanisms involved in inflammation in the soft and hard tissues during periodontal disease and peri-implantitis; 3) the use of genetically manipulated animals allows us to study the involvement of specific genes in periodontal and peri-implant diseases. Dr. Wilensky’s research will produce important information for the resolution and healing processes in gum disease and peri-implantitis, thus the potential of improving the global quality of life and overall health outcomes in post-implant and periodontal patients. Support for the research undertaken by Dr. Wilensky is of the utmost importance due to the increasing prevalence of peri-implantitis and the significant problem it poses given the cumulative number of implants delivered over time. His research plan aims to produce a simple and effective treatment that will have great impact not only on those millions of individuals throughout the world who suffer from untreatable post-implant diseases but also awareness of an effective treatment on those planning to have teeth implanted.

He is a certified implantologist of the German Society of Oral Implantology (DGI) and an ITI Fellow (International Team for Implantology); Sep 2014: His book “Implant Prosthodontics – A patient-oriented concept” was published by Quintessence Publishing.

Nicola Zitzmann is Professor and Chair of the Department of Reconstructive Dentistry at the University of Basel, Switzerland, and is a research group leader within the Department of clinical research (DKF). From 1994 to 1997, she received her postgraduate training at the Department of Fixed and Removable Prosthodontics and Dental Material Sciences in Zurich, Switzerland (Prof. P. Schärer). From 1997, N. Zitzmann worked as Assistant Professor at the Department of Fixed and Removable Prosthodontics and TMJ Disorders at the University of Basel (Switzerland) and completed her habilitation thesis (equivalent to Ph.D.) entitled “Prosthodontic treatment of the edentulous patient with particular consideration given to implant-supported restorations” in 2004. Nicola Zitzmann has been a Visiting Assistant at the Department of Periodontology at the University of Göteborg, Sweden (Proffs. J. Lindhe and T. Berglundh), and achieved her Ph.D. degree in the field of Periodontology in 2006. She is past-president of the International College of Prosthodontics, chaired the ITI section Switzerland until 2021, and is board member of the Swiss Society of Oral Implantology (SGI) and the Swiss Society of Reconstructive Dentistry (SSRD). N. Zitzmann is an associate editor of Clinical Oral Implants Research and authored more than 160 original publications, 80 papers and book chapters. She received the Jan Lindhe Research Award in 2014 for her scientific achievements in implant dentistry.
