Many books have been written about ceramic dental restorations, but there is still room for natural vision and for the fusion of art and science. The key to all creativity in restorative dentistry is the natural view, both in the characterization and reconstruction of the surface and the functional anatomy of the teeth. The author, together with an international team of experienced practitioners, has combined his artistic sense and keen observation of nature to create a synthesis of current restorative dentistry, including mimetic, minimal adhesive dentistry, optimal use of new ceramics, and functional integration.
Born in Bordeaux in 1960, Dr Jean-François Lasserre graduated from the University of Bordeaux in 1983. After a postgraduate degree (DEA) in anthropology, he was appointed lecturer in 1994 in the Department of Prosthetics at the Faculty of Dental Surgery of Bordeaux. In 2003, he defended his doctoral thesis on dental wear in present and past populations, with in particular the development of a wear simulator to study composites and ceramics. He taught occlusodontics for more than 15 years, and later devoted himself to teaching and research in the fields of esthetics and ceramic restorations. He is the author of numerous national and international articles and frequently lectures in these fields. As a hospital practitioner, he is also a freelance practitioner in Bordeaux specializing in esthetic dentistry, implantology, and prosthetics. He is the founder of ‘Symbiose,’ a research and training group in esthetic dentistry. Responsible for the international relations of his faculty, he was appointed Associate Professor at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy (UMP) of Ho Chi Minh City as well as Honorary Professor at the Hanoi Medical University of Vietnam. He is also an Associate Professor at the Iuliu Hațieganu University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Cluj-Napoca, Romania.
