It is well established that adhesive dentistry represents the gold standard approach for restoring compromised teeth, but the multitude of clinical situations require in-depth knowledge of different techniques. The latest generation of adhesive systems, the so-called universal adhesives, should lead to a simplification of the clinical procedures for direct and indirect restorations; however, it is difficult to understand when the total-etch, selective-etch or no-etch approach should be employed. Therefore, the webinar will describe in detail the step-by-step clinical procedures for the use of universal adhesives in the different clinical scenarios of modern direct restorations. The webinar will also determine whether the fact that around 15% of all cavities in the posterior region are deeper than 8 mm is always a limitation when seeking to employ adhesive procedures. When combining direct and indirect adhesive restorations, i.e. using the proximal box elevation technique, the most important factor is a dry working field. This can be achieved through modifications of matrix systems and the use of other tools such as Teflon tape instead of wedges. If sufficient moisture control can be achieved, this technique is far from being a “Pandora´s Box”, but rather offers a less invasive alternative to surgical and orthodontic approaches.
