Dentalimplantate werden auf der ganzen Welt routinemäßig angewendet, um fehlende Zähne zu ersetzen. In Anbetracht immer breiterer Therapieoptionen und einer wachsenden Zahl an Behandlern, die Implantatbehandlungen anbieten, muss alles dafür getan werden, dass die verwendeten Methoden den höchsten klinischen Maßstäben gerecht werden.

Band 6 des ITI Treatment Guide formuliert klinische Empfehlungen zur implantatprothetischen Behandlung von Patienten mit ausgedehnten Lücken in der ästhetischen Zone. Er fasst die Resultate und Konsenserklärungen der 3. und 4. ITI-Konsensuskonferenz zusammen und verschafft dem Leser einen Überblick über die aktuelle Evidenz zu diesen oft komplexen Behandlungen. Die gegebenen klinischen Empfehlungen zu verschiedenen Therapieformen und Verfahren beruhen möglichst weitgehend auf wissenschaftlichen und klinischen Daten.

Berücksichtigt wurden auch die Erfahrungen und Anregungen von zahlreichen versierten Behandlern innerhalb und außerhalb des ITI. Besonderes Augenmerk liegt auf der präoperativen Diagnostik sowie der Therapieplanung und der Beurteilung von Risikofaktoren bei diesen häufig komplexen Indikationen. Die chirurgischen und prothetischen Verfahren werden detailliert beschrieben und illustriert – gefolgt von einer Reihe klinischer Fallbeschreibungen mit Darstellung der einzelnen Arbeitsschritte. Ferner werden Komplikationen unterschiedlicher Genese beleuchtet und Anregungen zu ihrer Vermeidung unterbreitet. Klinische Fallbeschreibungen zu diversen Komplikationen und deren Behebung vervollständigen den Inhalt dieses Buches.

Prof Wismeijer studied dentistry at the College of Dental Science, Radboud University of Nijmegen, Netherlands from 1979 to 1984. After graduating, he joined the Department of Oral Function and Prosthetic Dentistry and worked in the section of Special Dental Care and Maxillofacial Prosthodontics. He received his PhD in 1996 on the subject of overdentures on dental implants: The Breda Implant Overdenture Study. From 1985 to 2006, he worked at the Amphia Teaching Hospital in Breda, Netherlands in the Department of Oral Surgery and Maxillofacial Prosthodontics. In 1985, he started a general dental practice, which since 1990 has been a referral practice for Oral Implantology. He is a past-president of the Dutch Prosthodontic Association and the Dutch Association for Gnathology. Prof Wismeijer has been an ITI fellow since 1993 and has served as a member of the Dutch ITI Education Core Group for 8 years. From 2011 to 2015 he was a member of the ITI Research Committee. In 2013, he was elected to the ITI Board of Directors as Member at Large, and in 2015 he was elected Chairman of the ITI Education Committee. In 2006,  Prof Wismeijer accepted the position of Professor and Chair of the Department of Oral Implantology and Prosthetic Dentistry at ACTA Amsterdam, which he combined with his referral practice. The research areas in his department were focused on CAD/CAM treatment optimization, digital dentistry, treatment evaluation and workflow, implant surface and bone substitute optimization, peri-implantitis, 3D printing in dentistry, and the evaluation of different implant-based treatment modalities. As a principal promotor, he has successfully supervised 25 PhD students. In January 2020, he stopped working at ACTA.

Dr. Stephen Chen

Australia

Stephen graduated BDS (Malaya) in 1983, MDSc (Melbourne) in 1987 and completed a PhD at the University of Melbourne in 2008.  He was awarded Fellowship by examination of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons (FRACDS) in 1988 (KG Sutherland Prize).  He holds the position of Clinical Associate Professor at The School of Dentistry, The University of Melbourne. Stephen’s clinical and scientific interests are in the field of periodontal tissue regeneration, bone grafting and dental implants. He has published over 30 papers in peer-reviewed journals, authored 2 textbooks and contributed chapters to 6 textbooks. Stephen is president-elect of the ITI (International Team for Implantology), an international not-for-profit academic organization in the field of dental implantology with over 15,000 members worldwide in over 100 countries.  He has served as chairman of the ITI Education Committee and is currently a member of the ITI Board of Directors.  In Australia, he has contributed significantly to local academic and professional associations, having previously served as chairman of the Australian and New Zealand Academy of Periodontists (ANZAP), Australasian Osseointegration Society (AOS) and Australian Society of Periodontology (ASP).  He was awarded honorary life membership of the Australasian Osseointegration Society (AOS) for services to the organization.

Daniel Buser, DDS, Prof em Dr med dent, is one of the most experienced international implant surgeons, with 35 years of surgical experience. He is past professor and chairman in the Department of Oral Surgery at the University of Bern in Switzerland and past president of the European Association for Osseointegration, the Swiss Society of Oral Implantology, the Swiss Society of Oral Surgery and Stomatology, and the International Team for Implantology (ITI). He is the recipient of numerous awards, including the ITI Honorary Fellowship and the Morton Amsterdam Award. He has authored and coauthored over 400 publications and is editor of 30 Years of Guided Bone Regeneration (Quintessence, 2021), which was recently published in its third edition. Dr Buser is cofounder of the Buser & Sculean Academy, which offers continuing education courses in periodontology and implant dentistry, and lectures nationally and internationally.
